TheDhali: In this graphic I’ve thrown two instances of the same waveform in a before after sequence. Notice where I edit the start point to be directly at the front of the transient. Scalpel!

Edit visually by zooming in on your waveforms using the zoom button located to your bottom left of the window. (Also posted with this figure.)

Move the cue point with your mouse to the desired location and monitor the sampled wave, edit as necessary in your mix.

TheDhali: I know Maschine is supposed to be this “never have to look at software” and “never look at screen” but it will do you ++ to your music creation to know your software like your favorite pair of jeans. I personally am much faster manipulating my software with hotkeys and mouse and using the Maschine controller for more “creative control”. I don’t believe one should try to work Maschine with just its controller. Never limit your controls. Add more. & Macro

In 1.5 NI introduced the ability to zoom on the controller, if that’s faster for you, please do what works in your instance, this is the same thing you will see on your screen as you edit from your controller.

NI Maschine is now in version 1.6

Take care and keep developing your practice.

Audio Production - DSP Cards.. FEEEL the Power..

Few posts ago on HolyMedia!:
“On a Budget - Custom PC Audio Workstation”

We purchased these parts and threw em together.

The Rig:

AMD Quad Core Black 3.0ghz
ASUS P5 MotherBoard
8GB RAM
700watt PS / ATX Full Tower
M-AUDIO Audiophile PCI
Ubuntu Studio / Windows XP SP3

“Works GREAT! Smashing sound for around 1k usd.

The DSP Cards: Now we want to push the limits and break into the professional polished sound. With the latest drop of the Universal Audio UAD-2 QUAD DSP Accelerator Card, my thirst for power was turning my head toward Universal Audio to harness the power of a full 128 channel analog mixer.

Play the Video. Wow. Powerrrrrrrrrrrrr….. XD

OR…

On the budget tip. for now you can start by picking up one of their older cards.

The PCI UAD-1 - Which sells on ebay.com for about 100-150 usd.

http://www.ebay.com/ (Search for UAD-1)

For this setup we’ll pick up a few of these to start.
We are only at the point of learning and high end cards will be at another level when we have more of an understanding…at a later date..we’ll leave it to the engineers to Pro G the technology while we Pro G the skills, and meet em in the middle.

For Now even our one UAD-1 when compared to nothing nets you..

CS-1 Channel Strip

DM-1/L Delay Modulator

RS-1 Reflection Engine

EX-1 EQ & Compressor

Nigel

Realverb Pro

Pultec EQP-1A

1176 SE Limiting Amplifier

Preflex - Amp/Cab Simulator

Gate/Comp

Phasor

Mod Filter

Trem/Fade

Mod Delay

Echo

TheDhali: FYI - One UAD-2 Quad is Equal to 10 UAD-1 Cards. Wow.
Tax return to DSP Card = Good Job, this kind of investing is what we need in this world, the economy and the ears of all are better because you made this commitment. Pro F’in G.

Bottom Line.. If you use power. and looking for more. to make a machine that can take what you wanna give it. Look into Universal Audios DSP Cards. Imagine a phat mix in Pro Tools Now.

To Be Filled as Time continues

Audio Production - Automation

This Valentine’s Day, we will begin to annoy the significant others with some more track polishing. This week we’ll look at automating in your tracks, getting them to sound just right.

In the figure above, we are working with volume.

The line represents the volume throughout the track.
The dots are what change or pivot the direction of the volumes vector.

Make a new point using your Grabber tool. Click and drag or delete unwanted points. We want this very clean so be precise.

If you run into trouble. Your friend Control Z never failed you.

Use your ears and match the volumes where they need to be. In this example I’ve spliced 3 different recordings from the same device recorded at different volumes for use of showing this technique.

The signature of the voice is the same but the volume needs work. So we adjust those lines accordingly with the points before the wave comes in, and we adjust it back after.

There is nothing to it but to do it, take your time and hope your mix comes out sounding great!

Pro G!
